Floraverse - Species Concept - Axolon? by kuromizuouji Floraverse - Species Concept - Axolon? by kuromizuouji
Well here's something that's been circling my mind for about a week now.
The new-ish group, noted above, is what sparked this and several other creature/species ideas.
To understand everything that will be following, I'd suggest giving the group a look.
This species, Axolon (? (its a WIP name.)) are based on; salamanders & axolotl, if it wasn't obvious.

Common elements: Axolon tend to posses an affinity for; Water, Fire, Poison, & Earth, although they can also have their sub-types, such as; Acid & Lava.

Hereditary Magic: Axolon can pass down their affinities quite easily to the next generation, but that affinity is likely to change once, maybe even twice before reaching adulthood, due to their bodies being susceptible to environmental change. Once an adult this susceptibility fades and they are no longer at risk to change.

Elemental Weakness: An Axolon's weakness depends entirely on what affinity they grow up with, for e.g. an Axolon with an affinity to Fire would be weak to Water and watery environments, preferring a hotter, drier climate.

Common Locations: Axolon's tend to travel alot and therefore can be found in many locations, pretty much all over, adults tend to stick to areas where they can live unaffected by their environment.

Location/Climate Preference: An Axolon's preference in living differs between communities, depending on the majority affinity present, in said communities. As such they can be found almost all over Owel.

Level of Intelligence: Axolon's intelligence differ between communities/tribes. One tribe can posses members of high intelligence whilst others could have a basic level of intelligence.

Language: There are three known separate native languages the Axolon use, they probably derive from one language which changed over time.
.Bael is a tongue used by more intelligent Axolon, mostly between community members, as they speak Common when interacting with other species.
.Taichol is a tongue that is beginning to die out but is still taught by Axolon elders, in hopes that it is continued to use. It's very good for story telling.
.Jorn is a tongue used by less intelligent Axolon tribes, communing with these communities most times would need an Axolon translator. They to can speak Common, thought more often that not it is quite broken.

Trivia: With intelligence comes less need for physical labour as the smarter Axolon make money in trade and business. So you'll often find an Axolon trader with paid security of their less smarter cousins. Axolon can be very sly in the trading business; always looking for ways to make more money.

It would be nice to see some sort of Amphibious species in Floraverse.
